North American Programs

Research conducted by Prevent Blindness America reveals that one-in-four school-age children have visual disabilities. Children whose vision problems go undetected or untreated are destined to fail in school and, subsequently, in life. Further research indicates approximately 3.4 million Americans ages 40 and older are blind or visually impaired; a number expected to double in the next 30 years. Vision loss robs adults of their independence, mobility and quality of life.

Give the Gift of Sight was founded on the belief that clear vision is a basic right, not a luxury.  We are committed to delivering clear vision to those in need around the world regardless of their ability to pay.

Our North American programs provide free eye care and new eyewear to underprivileged people in the U.S. and Canada through our North American Clinics and Vision Van missions, Community Outreach, In-Store programs and Hometown Day. In 2007 alone, more than 343,000 people benefited from these programs.

"One little boy had such a high prescription, I said, "Baby, you're not even seeing the leaves on the trees! When we gave him his new glasses, he could see everything."
